Canada urges Azerbaijan to reopen sole Karabakh-Armenia road

PanARMENIAN.Net - Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly on Tuesday, April 25 issued a statement on the latest developments in the Lachin corridor connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia, calling on Azerbaijan to reopen the road.

Azerbaijani authorities on April 23 set up a checkpoint on the only road connecting the Karabakh with Armenia. Baku also maintained that they have informed the command of the Russian peacekeepers and the Russian-Turkish monitoring center about the installment of the checkpoint.

“Canada is deeply concerned with the establishment of a checkpoint by Azerbaijan in the Lachin corridor, the only land connection between Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding region,” Joly.

“This action clearly undermines the peace process and stability throughout the region. We call on Azerbaijan authorities to reopen the Lachin corridor. It must remain open and unimpeded to allow for the freedom of movement of people and goods.

Joly also called on both parties to resume talks and refrain from any further escalation or hostile actions along the border.
