Armenian-Turkish agreement disputable document of modern Armenian History
Joint statement signed by Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Turkey is the most disputable document in modern Armenian History, a historian said.

"The date of signature was very problematic, publication method unacceptable and result very doubtful," Ara Papian, Head of Social and Scientific Research Center Modus Vivendi, told PanARMENIAN.Net.

"If any precondition presented by Turks is true, it means end of Armenia as an independent political entity," said Mr. Papian.

According to the historian, normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations does not mean opening of the border, but opening frontier points Akhurian-Dogukapi and Margara-Igdir as well.

"The goal of Armenian-Turkish negotiations is frontier points opening confirmation and establishment of diplomatic relations. So, such documents must be signed not on intergovernmental but interagency level," said Papian.

Ara Papian thinks that if Ankara refuses to take further steps it would mean Turkey does not pursue normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations but wants to trap Armenia and get desirable benefits.
