Yerevan, Baku “must soon determine cartographic basis for delimitation”

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan believes Armenia and Azerbaijan must determine the cartographic basis of the border delimitation process “in the near future”.

Pashinyan told a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, July 20 that the delimitation should take place on the basis of the Almaty Declaration of 1991.

“The opening of communications of the regions, as stated in the statement of the President of the European Council, should take place on the basis of the principle of sovereignty, jurisdiction and equality of the parties.

“As for humanitarian issues, Azerbaijan continues to break its promises given to international partners on this issue. But we must tirelessly continue the work towards the return of the prisoners and the clarification of the fate of the missing persons.

According to him, the negotiation process should continue as intensively as possible and active efforts should be made to find mutually acceptable solutions

Also Thursday, Pashinyan said the recent trilateral meeting in Brussels with the President of the European Council and the President of Azerbaijan, unfortunately, did not yield any concrete results in terms of opening the Lachin Corridor connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia.
