UN reps to visit Armenia village where Karabakh aid convoy remains blockaded

Representatives of the United Nations and UN agencies will visit Kornidzor in Armenia’s Syunik Province where a humanitarian convoy carrying emergency food and medical aid to Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) remains blocked by Azerbaijan at the entrance of the Lachin Corridor, Artsakhpress reports.

The delegation will witness how the delivery of over 360 tons of humanitarian assistance from Armenia is being barred from entry into Karabakh.

The trucks, however, have remained at the mouth of the Lachin Corridor by the Hakari Bridge, where Azerbaijan has set up an illegal checkpoint.

Since December 12, 2022, the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia - the Lachin Corridor - has been blocked by Azerbaijan. Baku tightened the blockade on June 15, 2023, banning emergency relief supplies that were carried out by Russian peacekeepers and the International Committee of the Red Cross through the sole road connecting Karabakh to Armenia and the outside world. The move aggravated the shortages of food, medicine and other essential items experienced by the region’s population.
