Pashinyan says Armenia ready for 3+3 regional talks

Armenia is ready for regional meetings in the 3+3 format, which also includes Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey and Russia, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with the Public TV on Tuesday, October 10.

“One of the nuances of our foreign policy is that we attach importance to regional relations by not separating them from the general context of international relations,” Pashinyan said.

“We are ready, but it requires additional discussions. First of all, up to this point these meetings have taken place at the foreign ministerial level, and now the perceptions of the parties must be clarified, as to at what level the discussion should continue,” Pashinyan said, adding that previously an agreement had been reached to hold the next 3+3 meeting in Tehran.

Pashinyan's comments came after Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said "historical" conditions have been created for the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, the signing of a peace treaty and the transformation of the South Caucasus region into a "space of peace and cooperation".

On September 19, Azerbaijan launched a military offensive against Nagorno-Karabakh, which left hundreds of Armenians killed and thousands of others displaced. On September 20, the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh agreed to a ceasefire on Azerbaijan’s terms, including the dissolution of the Defense Army. On September 18, President of the Republic of Artsakh Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree, according to which the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) will cease to exist by January 1, 2024. Over 100,625 displaced residents have already fled Nagorno-Karabakh and reached Armenia.
