Armenia launches criminal prosecution against 20 Azerbaijani officials

PanARMENIAN.Net - As part of criminal proceedings in connection with the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020, a criminal prosecution has been initiated against some 20 representatives of the military-political leadership and the armed forces of Azerbaijan, PastInfo reports citing Armenia’s Investigative Committee.

The Investigative Committee’s remarks came in response to a question about whether search warrants have been issued for president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, defense chief Zakir Hasanov, head of the General Security Service, Kerim Veliyev, for war crimes committed against the people of karabakh.

The Committee, however, did not reveal who in particular was among the 20 Azerbaijani officials.

September 27 marked the third anniversary of the beginning of the Second Karabakh War – the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in the fall of 2020. Throughout the six-week war, at least 4000 Armenians, including 88 civilians, were killed, according to official data, and more than ten thousand others were wounded. Nearly 90,000 citizens of Artsakh were displaced, lost their homes and property as a result of the Azerbaijani aggression.
