Yerevan sees attempts to change status quo in Jerusalem’s Armenian quarter

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian Foreign Ministry is engaged in the crisis involving the historical Armenian garden known as the Cows' Garden in Jerusalem, Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan told reporters on Thursday, April 11.

According to Kostanyan, an attempt is being made to change the status quo of the Armenian quarter in Jerusalem.

“The issue goes deeper than the safety of our compatriots or citizens. An attempt is being made to change the status quo of the quarter in Jerusalem,” the Deputy Foreign Minister said.

“The Armenian Foreign Ministry has raised the problem both at international platforms and at meetings with interested colleagues, including from Arab countries.”

Kostanyan stressed that the Foreign Ministry has been monitoring developments since the first day of the crisis.

In recent days, attacks on the Armenian community have increased by local settlers disputing the territory, which has belonged to the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem for millennia. Clashes occur between Armenian activists and representatives of the Armenian clergy with Israeli settlers who are now supported by the country’s police.
