Azerbaijan is in the state of cung-cvang
Currently, Azerbaijan in the state of cung-cvang, since it faces the choice: to join Turkey and thus go to wittingly loosing talks with Armenia, fraught with serious concessions. This was stated by the Azerbaijani political scientist Rasim Agaev. According to him, there is another way also: Azerbaijan will enable Turkey to solve its problems independently and remain one-to-one with Armenia and its friends Russia, US and Western Europe.

"This will mean an ultimate freezing of negotiations and keeping the ongoing status quo," said Agaev.

According to him, Armenia approaches to the problem of Armenian-Turkish reconciliation and the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement merely the same way as Americans. "They think that at this point there is no need to connect these two problems. It is more important to normalize Armenian Turkish relations and create a communication corridor for the Americans to realize their project of Great Near East. In respect to fulfillment of such a grandiose plans the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict can still wait. The notorious road map, which has not been mentioned within recent days, serves the same purpose," said the political scientist.

Agaev also mentioned, that in respect to declarations, either Turkey or Azerbaijan expresses commitment to Madrid principles. "In reality the settlement of the Nagorno Karbakh conflict is not correlated at all with the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relationship. In that regard Turkey an Armenia take the way of minimal steps towards improved relations. Officially, nothing will be done before the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, but in fact, jets will fly, land frontiers will be opened more and more frequently. A big noise and scandals will happen which can run to temporary closure of the border. Parallel to this, the border will turn into a sieve, and trade turnover will grow and attain the level, at which those relations will be impossible to break off,» told Agaev to News-Azerbaijan.
