Armenia to appoint defense attaché to EU

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian government intends to establish a defense attaché position at its mission to the European Union, according to a draft decision included in the government meeting agenda, reports Radar.am .

According to the rationale behind the decision, recent years have seen significant development in defense, security, and military cooperation between Armenia, Belgium, and the EU.

In this context, it is planned that Armenia’s existing defense attaché at NATO will also serve concurrently as the country’s defense attaché to the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium.

Earlier, it was revealed that EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, proposed a second aid package for Armenia from the European Peace Facility. In 2024, the EU has already provided financial assistance to Armenia through this fund. On July 22, the EU Council allocated €10 million to Yerevan via the European Peace Facility to enhance its defense capabilities.
