Mirzoyan: Armenia holds dynamic dialogue with Turkey

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, in an interview with India’s WION news outlet, stated that Armenia and Turkey are conducting a dynamic dialogue focused on establishing diplomatic relations.

"Armenia has four neighbors. Our eastern neighbor is Azerbaijan, with whom we are working to establish peace and interstate relations, turning the page on regional hostility. Our western neighbor is Turkey, with whom our borders have been closed for over three decades. Currently, we are engaged in a rather dynamic dialogue with Turkey, aiming to establish diplomatic relations and reopen borders. So far, we have managed to take some small but tangible steps, though several agreements remain unfulfilled," Mirzoyan explained, quoted by Armenpress.

He also recalled that both sides had already agreed to initially open the border for third-country citizens and later for holders of diplomatic passports from Armenia and Turkey.

"We have already agreed that the border should first open for third-country citizens, as well as for holders of diplomatic passports from Armenia and Turkey. This last point has not yet been implemented, but we continue our dialogue. Once again, if relations are fully normalized, it will be beneficial not only for the two countries but also for the region and several other stakeholders beyond it," the Armenian Foreign Minister clarified.

Addressing Armenia’s other neighbors, Georgia and Iran, Mirzoyan noted that Armenia has maintained strong ties with both countries for many years and remains focused on further strengthening these relationships.

"We understand that you are particularly interested in Armenia-Iran relations, given the geographical perspective, considering India and Armenia’s positioning. It is evident that we seek to deepen our ties. Naturally, we must also pay attention to the countries situated between us. Iran is undoubtedly one of those countries with which we are keen to expand cooperation, including in the trilateral format you mentioned," Mirzoyan stated.
