Aghazaryan says talks underway with 4 potential PM candidates![]() May 7, 2025 - 12:12 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Independent MPs Hovik Aghazaryan and Hakob Aslanyan are preparing to respond to letters from Edgar Ghazaryan and Narek Malyan regarding a proposed no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Aghazaryan stated that they currently hold discussions with four individuals who could be nominated for the prime minister's position, according to Pastinfo. He emphasized that citizens have demonstrated a strong sense of legal awareness and presented a serious agenda. Their response will be delivered on Friday, May 9, following the party's board meeting. When reminded of their previous statements about not participating in any initiative involving teams of former presidents Robert Kocharyan or Serzh Sargsyan, Aghazaryan responded, "God saved us from that ordeal." "The 'I Have Honor' and 'Armenia' alliances have declared their readiness to join any initiative but will not nominate a candidate. Therefore, God saved us from that ordeal. Except for exceptional cases, we continue to insist that we will not join forces gathered around Kocharyan and Sargsyan. However, our goal is to do everything to prevent Nikol Pashinyan's re-election," he said. Aghazaryan also mentioned that they are currently engaged in the process of finding a common candidate. "We are currently negotiating with four individuals whose candidacy we can propose for the prime minister's position. Whoever agrees among the four, we will discuss their candidacy within our party's board and nominate them as a candidate for prime minister. These are honorable, experienced, neutral figures. Among these individuals, there are candidates who could be acceptable to both the parliamentary opposition and many from the Civil Contract party," the MP noted. On April 28, on behalf of the "We Are Awake" movement, individual letters were delivered to all MPs, proposing to initiate a process of expressing no confidence in Nikol Pashinyan within a reasonable timeframe (within 10 days). Hayk Mamijanyan, head of the "I Have Honor" faction in the National Assembly, addressing discussions around the prime minister's impeachment, stated that if Armenia's second president Robert Kocharyan is nominated as a candidate for prime minister, they will support him. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. ![]() ![]() Partner news | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
