Risks remain until peace deal signed, says Papoyan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Gevorg Papoyan, Armenia’s Minister of Economy and deputy chair of the Civil Contract Party, stated during a briefing following a cabinet session that “until a peace agreement is signed, all types of risks remain to some extent.”

His remarks were in response to a recent statement by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, 1lurer.am reports.

Papoyan emphasized that Armenia is making every effort to conclude the agreement: “Within the framework of our sovereignty and red lines, we are doing everything to sign the peace agreement, avoid new escalations, prevent new wars, and ensure there are no more casualties. The Armenian government’s actions are directed toward that goal.”

Regarding the American statement, Papoyan said, “While I’m not an expert on the matter, I believe any statement that helps the sides finalize an already negotiated peace deal is positive. Conversely, if a statement distances the parties from the agreement, it should be assessed negatively.”

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, stressed the importance of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and warned that the risk of renewed armed conflict remains. He affirmed that Washington is working to prevent such an outcome.
