RA FM says peace deal answers Azerbaijan’s constitution fears

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan responded to Azerbaijani claims that Armenia’s Constitution contains territorial demands, stating that “the most direct way to address such concerns is to sign a peace treaty.”

“If Azerbaijan’s concerns are genuine about Armenia’s Constitution having territorial claims, then the most direct path is to sign the peace treaty—not to avoid it,” Mirzoyan said, as reported by Aysor.am .

He added that after signing, the treaty must undergo a ratification process in accordance with legislative requirements.

“First, we must turn to the Constitutional Court, which is the only body in the world authorized to interpret our Constitution,” he stated.

Mirzoyan emphasized that Armenia should present its arguments to Azerbaijan, listen to their position, and work toward a solution.

“Our mission is to seek a solution. If we can agree on holding further meetings at the ministerial level, or between the prime minister and the president, it would be welcome. We support such initiatives,” he said.

On March 13, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry announced that it had accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on two previously disputed articles, stating that the peace agreement is ready to be signed. Armenia expressed readiness to begin consultations on the date and location of the signing. Azerbaijan, however, introduced new preconditions and said it is too early to discuss the timing of a meeting.
