Russian ambassador warns of attempts to revise Armenia-Russia ties history

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russia’s Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin stated that attempts are being made to reinterpret the history of Armenia, its identity, and the historical ties between Armenia and Russia. He made the remarks at an award ceremony for winners of the Armenology competition named after academician Marr, held in Yerevan.

According to Kopyrkin, these reinterpretations are directly linked to developments in bilateral relations, as well as events in the region and globally. He emphasized that the key to resolving the issue lies in conducting objective, positive, and scholarly analysis of Armenia, the Armenian nation, and its history, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.

The ambassador noted that the two countries share much in common, with their identities so deeply intertwined that at times it is difficult to separate their historical and spiritual roots.

Kopyrkin also highlighted the growing interest in Armenology in Russia. A dedicated department is being established at the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Moscow State University. He stressed the importance of supporting this initiative in every way, noting that it is also a priority for the Russian Embassy. Kopyrkin expressed hope that each year more diplomats proficient in Armenian will be assigned to Armenia.

Previously, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on Armenia’s proposed “Crossroads of Peace” initiative, stating it requires a peace treaty with Azerbaijan and normalized relations with Turkey.
