Negotiations on EU-Armenia agenda almost complete

PanARMENIAN.Net - Talks between the European Union and Armenia on a new cooperation agenda are nearing completion, with a strong focus on fully implementing their comprehensive agreement.

During a discussion organized under the EU-Armenia Civil Society Platform, EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos announced that negotiations on a new EU-Armenia partnership agenda are almost complete.

According to Maragos, the emerging agenda places strong emphasis on the full implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the complete utilization of the opportunities it provides, as reported by Armenpress.

He recalled that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had described the agreement as a clear roadmap for reforms, which the government has been consistently pursuing.

The ambassador noted that many subcommittees are already operational, and a meeting of the Partnership Committee is scheduled for July in Brussels.

“This reflects the depth and frequency of our interactions,” he emphasized.

Maragos acknowledged the reform process is genuinely complex and requires technical support and the sharing of expertise, involving EU member states and other partners. He highlighted the clear commitment from both the government and civil society.

He also confirmed that efforts to develop the new partnership agenda are ongoing.

“Negotiations are almost finalized, aiming to fully realize the potential of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement. This is a joint commitment,” he said.

Maragos added that one of the EU’s main priorities is strengthening Armenia’s stability. To that end, a program to promote stability and economic growth was launched last year. It includes concrete steps, from diversifying the economy to introducing European standards in intellectual property and consumer rights protection.

“We must organize our dialogue and resources based on the strong commitment we observe from both sides,” the EU ambassador concluded.
