EU commission approves Armenia visa liberalization roadmap

PanARMENIAN.Net - European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced during a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan that the European Commission has approved the proposed roadmap for visa liberalization.

“I am pleased to announce that the European Commission has accepted the proposed visa liberalization roadmap. Once the conditions are met, the process will be completed, bringing Armenia and the EU even closer,” said Kallas, as reported by 1lurer.am .

She emphasized that people-to-people contacts are a cornerstone of bilateral relations, which is why the EU is advancing the dialogue on visa liberalization.

Earlier, Armenia and the European Commission had jointly announced the start of the visa liberalization dialogue. The initiative aims to help Armenia establish a visa-free regime for short-term visits to EU countries, provided that mobility and security are managed effectively.

The process will follow a merit- and progress-based approach, meaning it will proceed only as long as necessary, without assuming automatic transition to visa-free travel. All benchmarks must be fully met before the European Council and European Parliament make a final decision on granting visa-free status.
