Mirzoyan: Armenia aims for regional peace

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia is focused on creating a peaceful environment in its region and developing its economy with international partners to promote the prosperity of the Armenian people, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan told ChinaDaily during his visit to Beijing in late June.

Speaking to the Chinese media outlet, Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of upholding common principles and the peaceful resolution of conflicts amid today’s complex and changing global environment, Armenpress reports.

“We are focused on creating a peaceful environment around Armenia and developing our economy in cooperation with international partners to support the well-being of our people. The ‘Crossroads of Peace’ initiative, which is our strategic vision, aims to position Armenia as a neutral and efficient transit hub between Asia and Europe. This can complement broader international efforts, including China's Belt and Road Initiative, and foster regional economic integration,” Mirzoyan stated.

He also expressed confidence that with greater stability around Armenia, the country could become a key transit corridor connecting China and Europe.

Mirzoyan noted that Yerevan and Beijing share similar perspectives on many issues and underlined that Armenia is among the countries committed to an international order based on justice and law.

“We want to know the rules. We will respect them. But we also expect everyone to respect the law,” he said, warning that selective application of international law, particularly by major powers, undermines the position of smaller nations.

ChinaDaily also reported that Armenia supported China in evacuating Chinese citizens from Iran during the Israel-Iran conflict. Around 800 Chinese nationals were able to exit Iran via Armenia by land, the report noted.
