10 CIS states will join efforts in a struggle against carjacking
RF President Dmitri Medvedev signed an agreement on CIS member states collaboration in the struggle against carjacking. The agreement was ratified by State Duma on May 22 and approved by Federation Council on May 27, 2009.
The document details procedure rules for prevention and detection of carjacking crimes. The agreement also stipulates for financial issues: cars' detention and custody expenditures will be covered by the country where the car has been detained and return transportation- by the requester. Consideration term for car return request will be increased from 30 to 50 days.
Agreement parties are: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldavia, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine, Interfax reported.
As was earlier reported, one in five automobiles carjacked in Moscow is found in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. In 2008, 52 000 automobiles were carjacked in Russia; 400 of them were later found abroad.
