The Anti-Corruption Court has rejected a lawsuit filed by Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office against Archbishop Navasard Kchoyan, head of the Araratian Pontifical Diocese, whose secular name is Samvel Kchoyan. This was reported by the Prosecutor’s Office, according to Sputnik Armenia.
“The Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia rejected the Prosecutor General’s Department for Confiscation of Illegally Acquired Property’s lawsuit against Samvel Ruben Kchoyan,” the official response stated.
The Prosecutor’s Office had been investigating the legality of Archbishop Kchoyan’s assets since 2023. However, the case was dismissed because prosecutors “failed to specify which property was allegedly illicit in origin or what exactly was considered unlawfully obtained.”
Archbishop Navasard Kchoyan has previously supported Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s call for the resignation of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.
