Expert says top U.S. official visit possible early next year

Political analyst Suren Sargsyan wrote on his Facebook page that, according to his information, a very high-ranking U.S. official is expected to visit early next year.

He said it is important to understand whether the ambassador will continue to serve during the visit of the senior official.

“The beginning of next year will be extremely active for Armenia in terms of the implementation of U.S. policy.

According to my information, a very high-ranking official is expected to visit in February. I do not rule out that, formally, the Trump route could also open.

Against this background, information about the recall of the ambassador is of particular interest. For me, it is extremely important to understand whether the ambassador will continue to serve during the visit of the high-ranking official, or whether she will be replaced by a chargé d’affaires, since the likelihood of appointing a new ambassador within such a short time frame is almost zero.

The highest-ranking American officials ever to visit Armenia have been the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Secretary of State,” the post says.

The U.S. Embassy has announced that after three years of service, Ambassador Kristina Kvien will conclude her work in Armenia in mid-January. It is noted that following the ambassador’s departure, U.S. policy in Armenia will not change.

Earlier, it became known that, by order of Trump, 29 ambassadors will be recalled from various countries, including Armenia. All of them assumed office during the tenure of former President Joe Biden. According to the Associated Press, it was also noted that an ambassador is “the personal representative of the president, and it is the president’s right to ensure that those serving in those countries advance the America First agenda.”
