Top UFC lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan has expressed interest in facing American fighter Michael Chandler in a freestyle wrestling match, stating the fight would generate significant buzz, according to Factor.am .
“There’s a chance I return on February 28 and wrestle Michael Chandler. I asked RAF to set up a match with him because he’s avoiding me in the UFC. He even avoids saying my name. We’ll never fight under MMA rules, but I wouldn’t mind twisting his head in wrestling,” Tsarukyan told Ariel Helwani in an interview.
He added that Chandler claims on social media to be ready for a fight. “I wanted to challenge him at RAF, but they didn’t give me the mic. I think our match would make a lot of noise. In freestyle wrestling, he has a chance against me — in MMA, he doesn’t,” Tsarukyan said.
A few days ago, the 29-year-old Armenian fighter defeated 38-year-old American Lance Palmer 10–0 at the RAF 05 (Real American Wrestling) event in Florida. Tsarukyan has competed in 26 MMA fights, with 23 wins and 3 losses.
