Zurabyan: Armenia trades sovereignty for hostages

Levon Zurabyan, Vice President of the Armenian National Congress, wrote on Facebook that it is “horribly humiliating” for Armenia to concede its sovereignty in Syunik for 99 years—a region of immense strategic importance—legitimizing a special Azerbaijani status in the so-called “Zangezur corridor”, in exchange for what he called “the political charity” of releasing four captives.

He called on the public not to despair, affirming that “our dignity and national interests will be restored.”

“This is the full pomp and bankruptcy of Nikol Pashinyan’s diplomacy,” Zurabyan wrote. “In fact, this isn’t even diplomacy—he’s being dragged by the ear into a predetermined future he knows nothing about. That’s why he feels no concern. He’s out riding bikes, banging drums, DJ-ing for the public, handing out heart emojis.”

He claimed Pashinyan’s real role now is to numb the people’s pain. “And whatever’s needed for that, they’ll have him do,” he added.

“He’s also been assigned another task—conducting a ‘hybrid’ war against our identity.”

“Do not lose hope. We will restore our dignity and national interests. When that day comes, Azerbaijan will sign a peace agreement, and we’ll have genuine reconciliation with all our neighbors,” he concluded.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed a joint document in Washington under the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) initiative.

The TRIPP implementation document outlines the launch framework of the initiative. It does not establish or aim to create any legal obligations for either Armenia or the U.S.
