National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan has expressed confidence that the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) will not retain its current level of representation in the next parliamentary elections.
“It’s up to the ARF in what format they choose to participate. I’m certain the Hayastan Alliance will no longer hold the level of representation it has today. Maybe they’ll secure minimal seats, just enough to surpass the threshold, and only because the Electoral Code lowered the barrier by 1% for parties and alliances,” Simonyan said, according to Radar Armenia.
According to Simonyan, such forces are still operating within outdated political logic and fail to respond adequately to current realities.
“Let them present their offer to the Armenian people, say they’ll start a war, follow different diplomacy, or restructure ties with Russia. The people will decide. But I believe they’ve already rejected them, and will continue to do so,” he added.
Meanwhile, opposition MP Artsvik Minasyan from the Hayastan faction said during a parliamentary session that he hopes the ruling Civil Contract party will no longer be in power in the next legislature.
“They won’t be seated here—so that constitutional order can be restored in our country, which this government has overthrown,” he stated, as reported by Panorama.am .
Minasyan accused the majority of abusing its constitutional powers from the very start of the session, claiming the opposition’s basic rights are being denied.
“You reject everything, you’ve rejected the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Artsakh, the citizens of Armenia. Now you’re here berating the opposition for not reviewing the report of the commission investigating the 44-day war. Most of the opposition is under illegal criminal prosecution, myself included. According to the law, I have no right to access that report.
Go shout at law enforcement to stop these violations, shout at Nikol Pashinyan for attacking the church protected by the Constitution. Shout in that direction, not at the opposition,” Minasyan declared.
He emphasized that the current authorities have “dismantled constitutional order,” and added that he is confident the ruling party will not maintain its position in the next parliament.
Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 2026.
