Vazgen Harutyunyan, head of the Yerevan Municipality’s Transport Department, stated he has already been questioned as part of a criminal investigation. His powers have currently been suspended.
According to Factor.am , Harutyunyan said he is familiar with the charges against him, has expressed his position, and completely denies the accusations.
“I have reviewed the charges, expressed my disagreement, and presented all factual evidence, which fully refutes the accusations,” he emphasized.
The Investigative Committee reported earlier that public criminal proceedings had been initiated against Harutyunyan, and measures were taken to restrict his absence and suspend him from his duties.
Harutyunyan declined to comment further on the procurement process, citing the confidentiality of the investigation. However, he stressed that the publicized information does not reflect reality.
“The participating company failed to submit the legally required documents during the tender process. Therefore, the contract was terminated in accordance with the law. The company then challenged the results in court. I don’t want to disclose details to avoid breaching the investigation, but I can unequivocally state that this is not how events unfolded. The Yerevan Municipality’s Transport Department, under my leadership, acted solely within the bounds of the law and in the interest of Yerevan. All relevant facts have been presented,” he insisted.
Earlier, Hetq had reported that in February 2023, the Yerevan Municipality signed a contract with “Impex” LLC for road sign installation services. “Regionstroyservice” LLC, another bidder in the tender, legally challenged the results. This dispute became the basis for launching the criminal proceedings.
