At the Court of General Jurisdiction of Armavir Province, evidence was examined during a hearing in the case of Gevorg Nersisyan and Hambardzum Nersisyan, the brother and nephew of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II. At this stage, video recordings were reviewed.
Defense attorney Smbat Minasyan stated in court after viewing the footage that a witness’s testimony had effectively been refuted, Sputnik Armenia reports.
The Nersisyans are accused of hooliganism and obstructing campaign activities.
“In the video, we saw when the Toyota vehicle belonging to Hambardzum Nersisyan entered and exited the yard. It was established that leaving and returning to the yard took about 30 minutes, and the car was ultimately parked there before the campaign began. I draw the court’s attention to that segment, since certain individuals testified that the vehicle had been driving around the village during the campaign. Witness Garnik Ghazaryan had stated that he allegedly saw the car in the yard at the time of the supposed incident, but the footage refuted that circumstance,” Minasyan said.
The hearing concluded, and the next stage will involve the questioning of defendants Gevorg and Hambardzum Nersisyan.
The next court session in the case of Karekin II’s brother and nephew is scheduled for March 23 at 16:00 and April 6 at 16:00.
Gevorg Nersisyan, the brother of the Catholicos of All Armenians, and his son Hambardzum Nersisyan were detained on November 2. They were charged under articles on hooliganism and obstructing campaign activities.
