Pashinyan links TRIPP project to regional transit plans

Agreements reached on August 8 should allow the Persian Gulf–Black Sea route to operate, with Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan all equally involved, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a briefing.

He also expressed hope that stability and peace around Iran would be restored as soon as possible, 1lurer.am reported.

Pashinyan also addressed the TRIPP project and the potential benefits for countries in the region.

“We should not think about how to distribute 50 trucks among ourselves, but about how to make the South Caucasus the most attractive, safe and fastest corridor for 500,000 trucks, so that cargo flows through here, bringing tens of billions of dollars in benefits for all of us,” he said.

According to the prime minister, even the infrastructure of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia may not be sufficient to handle the expected flows, even with strategic investment.

“Let us not forget that TRIPP is part of the Crossroads of Peace,” he added.

In Washington, the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States — Nikol Pashinyan, Ilham Aliyev and Donald Trump — formally agreed to launch the Trump Route.

“The route will allow Azerbaijan to reach Nakhichevan while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty. Armenia is also establishing an exclusive partnership with the U.S. to develop this corridor. The term may be extended for up to 99 years, and it has been promised that after 99 years it will be extended for another 99 years. We expect significant infrastructure development, and American companies are eager to enter these countries and invest large sums, which will bring economic benefits to our three states,” Trump said.

On September 11, Nikol Pashinyan said Armenia had not leased land to the U.S. side for 99 years but had granted development rights.
