Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan received Kirill Komarov, First Deputy Director General of the Rosatom State Corporation, and discussed issues related to ensuring energy security.

The sides reviewed the progress of projects being implemented in Armenia within the framework of cooperation with Rosatom, as well as the next steps for their implementation.

They also addressed prospects for developing mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy sector and expanding trade in energy resources across the region.

In 2023, Rosatom Service and Armenian NPP Closed Joint-Stock Company signed an agreement extending the plant’s operational lifetime until 2036. Until then, the authorities are considering the option of constructing a new nuclear power plant.

After meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said Armenia and the United States had completed negotiations on a “123 Agreement” on civilian nuclear energy, opening broad opportunities for major projects.

He noted that the agreement implies up to $5 billion in initial exports from the United States, plus $4 billion in support through fuel supplies and servicing.
