Pashinyan discusses Middle East tensions with EU leaders

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed the situation in the Middle East and possible ways to reduce regional tensions during a videoconference meeting initiated by European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Participants exchanged views on the current developments and potential solutions, emphasizing the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts.

In his remarks, Pashinyan said that Armenia is closely and with concern monitoring the events unfolding in the region, particularly given that several countries involved are Armenia’s friends and partners.

The prime minister highlighted the importance of diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and stabilizing the situation, stressing the need to resolve the crisis as soon as possible. Nikol Pashinyan also reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to support all constructive initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability.

On February 28, Israel and the U.S. carried out airstrikes on Iran, during which Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed. Iran responded with attacks on Israel and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military bases.
