Minister briefs diplomats on COP17 preparations

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan met with representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Armenia to present progress in preparations for the COP17 conference, he said on Facebook.

The minister noted that this format of meeting is being held for the second time, allowing for continued open and effective dialogue with partners.

“I presented the work carried out so far and the upcoming steps, emphasizing that Armenia is fully committed to organizing the conference based on principles of transparency, inclusiveness, and high ambition. We aim to make COP17 a turning point in the global agenda of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

In this context, I also addressed recent international and legislative developments, including the outcomes of meetings held in Montreal and the ratification of the Nagoya Protocol, which provide an important foundation for the successful organization of the conference,” Matevosyan said.

During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan highlighted the importance of the leaders’ summit preceding COP17 as a platform for strengthening high-level political commitments.

Detailed presentations on preparatory work were also delivered, and a video dedicated to the conference logo was shown, followed by a Q&A session.

“COP17 in Yerevan should become the platform where the transition from commitments to real action in biodiversity protection is strengthened. Armenia is ready to work closely with all partners to ensure tangible and effective outcomes,” Matevosyan added.

The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session.

The 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) will be held in Yerevan’s Meridian Expo Center from October 18 to 30, 2026.
