Armenian businessman linked to vote-buying probe

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee reported uncovering cases of alleged vote-buying, accepting bribes and obstructing the free exercise of voting rights in Syunik Province ahead of the parliamentary elections.

According to the committee, investigators obtained evidence suggesting that associates of an ethnic Armenian businessman living in Orenburg, Russia, allegedly promised bribes to voters in exchange for supporting the Strong Armenia party in the June 7, 2026 parliamentary elections.

The alleged incentives reportedly included partial debt forgiveness, employment offers and other forms of material assistance.

Authorities also stated that the same individuals allegedly attempted to interfere with the free expression of voting rights among several residents of the Sisian community in Syunik through threats of violence.

A criminal proceeding has been launched by Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee. Several individuals have been detained, while searches and other investigative measures have been carried out.

The committee urged citizens to immediately report any information related to bribery attempts or other violations, including anonymously, stressing that confidentiality is guaranteed by law.

Under Armenian law, a person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court verdict.
