Decisions have been made to initiate criminal proceedings against three parliamentary candidates from the Prosperous Armenia Party.
According to Sputnik Armenia, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has granted consent to initiate criminal prosecution and deprive of liberty Garush Marzetsyan, Edgar Bojukyan and Naira Harutyunyan.
After reviewing the motions submitted by the Prosecutor General’s Office and hearing the participants in the proceedings, the CEC concluded that there was no intention to obstruct the exercise of the passive electoral right guaranteed by Article 48 of the Constitution.
At the same time, the Central Electoral Commission stated that it found no circumstances indicating the existence of political motives. Therefore, by decisions adopted on June 2 and June 3, the CEC approved the motions.
The election campaign, which began on May 8, continued through June 5. June 6 is a day of silence, and elections will be held on June 7. On May 25, the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party submitted a withdrawal request, after which the CEC invalidated the registration of the party’s electoral list. As a result, there will be no ballot paper numbered 13 in the upcoming elections.
