Opposition supporters struck by vehicle

Opposition supporters were reportedly struck by a vehicle in Yerevan, leaving several people injured, according to statements from opposition representatives.

Sona Aghekyan, a member of the Mother Armenia faction in the Yerevan City Council and a candidate on the electoral list of the Prosperous Armenia Party, wrote on Facebook that a vehicle allegedly drove into members of their campaign team before leaving the scene.

“Dear compatriots, at this moment, supporters of Nikol Pashinyan sent this vehicle as a provocation. It struck members of our campaign team and then left. Several of our campaign members suffered serious injuries, and we are currently transporting everyone to hospital,” Aghekyan stated.

Iveta Tonoyan, spokesperson for the Prosperous Armenia Party, also commented on the incident, stating that according to eyewitnesses, the driver drove into a group of supporters of the Prosperous Armenia and Mother Armenia parties.

“We are clarifying the details of the incident while simultaneously urging law enforcement agencies to establish all circumstances of what happened as quickly as possible. This is a frightening precedent that demonstrates how far political intolerance and hostility toward opponents can go,” Tonoyan wrote.

According to Armenia’s Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a report concerning an incident between a citizen and Prosperous Armenia supporters is currently being recorded. The materials will subsequently be transferred to the appropriate investigative authority, Sputnik Armenia reported.

The incident reportedly took place in Yerevan’s Shengavit district.

The election campaign, which began on May 8, continued through June 5. June 6 is a day of silence, and parliamentary elections will be held on June 7. On May 25, the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party submitted a withdrawal request, after which the Central Electoral Commission invalidated the registration of the party’s electoral list. As a result, there will be no ballot paper numbered 13 in the upcoming elections.
