Davit Khazhakyan has announced his departure from the Bright Armenia party, saying he now considers his role within the organization concluded.
He added that staying out of the parliamentary elections had been his own decision.
“At 21, it was not easy to decide to join a political party and enter politics. It was a conscious and difficult choice that I do not regret.
“These years have been an important period of political growth and development for me. It had become a running joke that at every successive election, I was still too young to stand as a candidate. Fortunately, those ‘obstacles’ were eventually overcome as well.
“I tried to be a team player, taking pride in our shared achievements and accepting responsibility for our failures.
“I am grateful to everyone with whom I travelled this path: my colleagues, former and current teammates, as well as party chairman Edmon Marukyan, whom I trusted, learned from and served our state and people alongside.
“Not participating in the parliamentary elections was my choice. I now also consider my mission in the Bright Armenia party complete, leaving behind the passionate efforts of my youth and taking with me extensive experience, warm memories and many good friends,” he wrote.
Khazhakyan served as deputy chairman of the party’s governing council.
It later emerged that Gevorg Gorgisyan had been elected party deputy chairman by a decision of Bright Armenia’s governing council.
