HEYDAR ALIYEV RULED OUT US PARTICIPATION NECESSITY IN SECURING BAKU-CEYHAN OIL PIPELINE
Before leaving for the meeting of the heads of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia in Trabzon, Azeri President Heydar Aliyev told journalist in airport that passing any concrete decisions on Baku-Ceyhan oil pipeline was not provided for. He noted that the question was not solved, and each state would have to secure its sector of the trunk line. Answering the question whether US participation is possible to secure the pipelines, Aliyev said that there was no necessity for it. "If we cannot protect pipelines ourselves and other states have to assist us, what are we worth?" - he added. Aliyev expressed disagreement with the opinion exaggerated in some mass media that the Trabzon meeting would initiate a new power center in the region.
