Turkish society faces serious problems in terms of perceiving historical truth
"An important issue in the context of Armenian-Turkish ties normalization is public relations between two countries, a problem that sometimes becomes more difficult than official relations,» Turkish Studies expert Ruben Melkonyan, lecturer at YSU Turkology Chair, told a news conference in Yerevan.

The speaker accounts for his statement by the multi-layer character of two country's populations, one of them being a multi-national state with different needs and interests.

In this context, Melkonyan conventionally divides Turkish society into 3 groups: radicals, who have a negative attitude to establishing ties between two countries, neutral people who are indifferent to the issue and liberals who are very positively disposed to the normalization of bilateral ties. "The last group is very small to inspire positive hopes," the expert finds.
