Vladimir Putin: Russia will not allow new military adventures in Caucasus
Russia will not allow any attempts of revanche or new military adventures in Caucasus, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told a press conference devoted to results of negotiations with South Ossetian President Edward Kokoyta. "Russia is from now on ready to provide political and military support to South Ossetia and Abkhazia. I would like to repeat clearly and unequivocally that Russia will not allow attempts of revanche or new military adventures in the region. We'll closely follow and make adequate response to all developments," Vladimir Putin noted.
Since the recognition of South Ossetia, a lot has been done to build a platform for interstate relations between two states and strengthen their legal bases, RIA Novosti quotes Russian Premier as saying.
On August 26, 2008, Russia recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia's independence. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic ties with Moscow and declared two Transcaucasian republics as occupied territories.
