RA police launches "Observe traffic rules" program
On October 1, RA police launched "Observe traffic rules" program aimed at increasing pedestrian safety through observation of traffic rules.

"Our goal is to provide safe traffic," Head of RA Traffic Police, colonel Norik Sargsyan said.

"During 8 months of 2009, 447 cases of running down accident were registered, 86 resulting in fatalities. Pedestrians are to blame for 50% of these cases," Sargsyan stated.

AMD 3000 will be imposed for pedestrian violations. In case of non-payment, the violator will be taken to police department for personality identification.

The fine can be paid within a month, otherwise the sum will be increased threefold and juridically enforced. Drivers failing to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway will be fined for AMD 20 000.
