Vahan Shirkhanyan: amendments might be introduced into Protocols
Turkey would recognize the Armenian Genocide if RA didn't change its policy on the issue, according to Vahan Shirkhanyan, Hnchak Social Democratic party board member.

"Turkey was under continuous pressure of the European Union and other powers. It would recognize the Genocide sooner or later," he told a news conference today.

He also emphasized that the Armenian authorities should have carried out a thorough investigation before signing the Protocols and make the results public.

"Opening of Armenian-Turkish border will lead to no good," Shirkhanyan said, adding that some amendments were possibly introduced in the Protocols before the signature.

For his part, member of ruling Republican Party of Armenia Hamlet Harutyunyan said no superpower could make Turkey give up its policy of denial and recognize the Armenian Genocide.

As to recognition of present-day borders, he said that Yerevan recognized them when joined the UN.
