Dennis Blair: fighting can flare between Armenia and Azerbaijan

The top U.S. intelligence official warned Tuesday that fighting can flare between Armenia and Azerbaijan, AP reported.

In his testimony before the Senate Committee, Director of National Intelligence (DNI), Admiral Dennis Blair said that the unresolved conflicts of the Caucasus provide the most likely flashpoints in Eurasia.

“Although there has been progress in the past year toward Turkey-Armenia rapprochement, this has affected the delicate relationship between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and increases the risk of a renewed conflict over Nagorno Karabakh,” he said.

He also said that President Dmitry Medvedev's viewing of Moscow's former Soviet neighbors as a "zone of privileged interests" could undermine relations with Washington.
