Former world champion Artur Grigorian refuses to rematch with Zegan

Former world lightweight champion 42-year-old Armenian boxer Artur Grigorian (Uzbekistan) decided to rematch with a Polish boxer Matt Zegan scheduled for March 6, whom he defeated seven years ago by a controversial decision of judges, allboxing.ru reported. Recently, the former rivals agreed to hold a re-match, but after several weeks of training Grigorian understood that his time had already passed. ''I'd love to box with Matt - Grigorian said, - I've trained for four weeks, but my body is not obedient to me anymore''.

Now Grigorian is one of the coaches for the promotional Universum company, in particular, he coaches a Russia's heavyweight Denis Boytsov, and he fears that too hard training could result in an injury and inability to carry out his coaching duties. I am coach now and I am responsible for my boxers. I cannot afford a break in my work,'' Grigorian said.

Artur Grigorian is an Armenian boxer. In 1991 won a 2nd place as a Lightweight at the World Championships in Sydney, Australia. He went undefeated throughout his whole career and defended the title 17 times before losing it to Acelino Freitas in 2004 by decision. He retired later that year after winning one more bout. In February 2009 at the age of 41 he came out of retirement for one more bout in which he won a six round unanonimous decision against Kirkor Kirkorov, who is also of Armenian descent.
