The Armenian National Assembly has passed amendments in the RA law On International Agreements. On the government’s request, the parliament will hold the second reading within 24 hours, a PanARMENIAN.Net correspondent reported from the parliament.

“The bill submitted by the government is essential but insufficient. It empowers the government to deal with the Armenian-Turkish process but keeps the parliament aside. We are convinced that the National Assembly should be fully engaged in the process to make Armenia’s foreign policy more flexible and prevent Turkey from imposing conditions,” said Armen Rustamyan, head of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs.

Stepan Safaryan, the head of Heritage parliamentary group, said the hasty adoption of the bill is not understandable. “The bill does not specify when it can be applied. There is no link to Turkey’s protraction of ratification of the Protocols or its attempts to hamper international recognition of the Armenian Genocide,” he said.
