ARMENIA SUGGESTED TO BECOME EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ASSOCIATIVE MEMBER
At the sitting of the commission on cooperation between Armenia and the European Union held in Brussels Armenian leadership received an official invitation to become associate member of the European Parliament. Head of the Armenian delegation in the Council of Europe, Chairman of the commission on foreign relations of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hovhannes Hovhannisian stated it at today's press conference. Members of the Armenian delegation also met with the Secretary General of the European Union Javier Solana, with whom they discussed the process of the Karabakh conflict settlement. In the course of the Brussels meetings the representatives of the European Union condemned Baku latest calls for military solution of the conflict. Representatives of EU leadership also condemned the economic and transport blockade of Armenia held by Azerbaijan and Turkey. Deputies of the European Parliament confirmed their adherence to the resolution on recognition of the Armenian genocide of 1915, passed in 1987.
