ARMENIAN NATIONAL SECURITY MINISTRY MADE PUBLIC FACTS CONFIRMING IMPLICATION OF AZERBAIJAN TO INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM
Public Relations Department of the Ministry of National Security of Armenia has spread a statement, which says:
"Azerbaijan authorities have launched recently a propaganda campaign to present Armenia as a country harboring terrorists, and Nagorno Karabagh as a shelter for drug traffickers and other criminal elements. Politicians and political experts in Azerbaijan have begun considering the possibility and expediency of resumption of hostilities in Nagorno Karabagh under the pretext of "anti-terrorist operations," on grounds that the OSCE Minsk group has exhausted its resources to find a solution to the conflict. Azerbaijan is also trying to involve Turkey in this very explosive adventure. Azerbaijani defense minister Abiyev announced during a recent meeting with the chief of staff of Turkish armed forces Kevirkoghli, that Turkey could also take part in "anti-terrorist action" in Nagorno Karabagh. Following it a member of Turkey's parliament Bulent Akacali made a similar announcement, but added, " Azerbaijan should provide evidence that Armenia participated in terrorist actions in Azerbaijan, including Nagorno Karabagh."
In this respect an announcement by Azerbaijani president Heydar Aliyev that the OSCE Minsk group must "take a principled position over Nagorno Karabagh conflict, otherwise Azerbaijan will think about resorting to use of force to liberate our occupied territories," is also noteworthy. All these bellicose announcements contain the element of threatening with the aim of placing pressure on Armenia in the course of the negotiation process to force it to go to more compromises. Azerbaijan seeks an Armenian trace in almost every terrorist action or a murder, committed in every corner of the world and it is not surprising that Azerbaijan has stepped up these efforts after the September 11 attack on the USA thinking it is the time to go on with its groundless accusations. Numerous documents, which Armenia has at disposal, prove that Azerbaijan had contacts with Afghan mojahedins on the official level. Thousands of mojahedins, as well as Chechen guerillas, took part in military actions against Nagorno Karabagh defense army as members of regular Azerbaijani units. According to reliable information, which is also proven by material documents, the Afghan mojahedins and Chechen guerillas made the so-called special groups and their main goal was to conduct terrorist actions against Armenia and Nagorno Karabagh. The groups in question were formed in several villages in Azerbaijan. An office was also established at Apsheron Hotel in Baku that was engaged in hiring mercenaries. Dozens of officers, who spoke Farsi and Dari, were also hired as interpreters. The documents say that the Afghan and Chechen mercenaries got from $700 to $1,000 a month each. All the demands of mojahedins were met halfway, including privileged conditions and additional food catering. Numerous documents, as well as recordings of conversations of president Aliyev and chief of staff of armed forces Sadikhov also prove these contacts. Azerbaijani special services carried out many terrorist acts on Armenia's and Karabagh's borders, as well as in the Marneuli region of Georgia, on communications lines entering Armenia.
In 1993-1994 alone Azerbaijani special services organized 13 explosions on gas pipelines, delivering natural gas to Armenia across Georgia. In 1994, 1995 and 1996 Azerbaijani services exploded bombs in border market of Bagratashen that claimed the lives of dozens of innocent people and left more severely wounded. However, Azerbaijani special services do not restrict themselves to terrorist acts only. The medieval Inquisition executors could envy the brutal methods used in Azerbaijani camps and prisons on Armenian prisoners. One of them, Tiko Tikoyan, a former prisoner in Azerbaijan May 30, 2000 to July 28, 2000, committed a suicide after being released. It is evident that by accusing Armenia of supporting terrorism Azerbaijan is trying to conceal its own terrorist actions, expecting an appropriate reaction of the international community. Azerbaijan concocts "facts," distorts reports of international organizations and cites non-existing statements by the OSCE leadership.
A recent "research" by a Novrousoghli, which says that "Armenian terrorist organizations have prepared the list of 48 Azeris who are going to be assassinated is a brilliant proof. This latest "work" of Azerbaijani press can be described "as ravings of a madman."
Baku has launched a manhunt after those Azeris who have Armenian blood in their veins. Revelation of "Armenian spies and terrorists" occupies a significant place in the anti-Armenian propaganda of Azerbaijani special services. The latest revelation was in 2001 of a twenty-year, allegedly Armenian girl, named Raya Aghasian, who had been acting as "a spy" since 1994, that is when she was only 13. The concocted articles about "the Armenian" spy were so naive and simple that the case did not develop and was forgotten.
The anti-Armenian propaganda could not be based only on falsified and distorted information and facts and that is why
