TURKEY "TRADES" WITH MECHANISMS OF ITS INFLUENCE ON AFGHANISTAN ETHNIC MINORITY LEADERS
According to "Guardian" Spanish newspaper, the US and UK suggest Turkey leading the future contingent, that will be located in Afghanistan after the Taliban regime fall. The newspaper informs that the contingent will operate under UNO aegis and will consist of Muslims. For the discussion of Turkey's role in the formation of the future Afghanistan political structure, UK foreign minister Jack Citro arrived in Ankara at the end of last week. It is known that Turkey has a definite influence on Anti-Taliban coalition several figures, particularly general Dustum, who is Uzbek.
Besides, it is expected that Ankara can influence on the leaders of Turkic- speaking ethnic groups, living in Afghanistan. (Almost 40% of the residents of that country speak Turkic languages. They are Uzbeks, Turkmen, Kazakh, Kirghiz.) From the very outset, Turkey insists on proportional participation of Afghanistan's peoples in the country government. But Pushtuns, who are the largest ethnic group in the country, think that they have a right for supremacy. The task of West is to prevent Afghanistan from being divided into several states with Turkey's help. The commentators think that Turkey's use of its influence mechanisms on Afghanistan depends on diplomatic concessions from Washington.
