Unity of Armenians of Georgia NGO calls on Armenian businessmen to invest in Javakhk

The problems of Armenian population of Samtskhe Javakheti should be resolved through dialogue between Yerevan and Tbilisi, according to Tachat Vardapetyan, Armenian MP and head of the Unity of Armenians of Georgia NGO.

“Javakhk should become a bridge between Armenia and Georgia. We suppose that the Georgian authorities should soften their policy in the region, what will be favorable for further development of Armenian-Georgian relations,” he told journalists in Yerevan on May 15.

He also called on Armenian businessmen to make investments in Javakhk to help resolution of social and economic problems there.

As to reports on settlement of Meskhetian Turks in Javakhk, the MP said the information is not true to fact.

Commenting on Armenia-Turkey rapprochement, Mr. Vardapetyan said that Armenia has not exhausted diplomatic resources for normalization of relations with Turkey yet. “The international community hails Armenia’s initiatives,” he said, adding that the dialogue with Ankara did not hamper the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, a priority of Armenia’s foreign policy agenda.
