Day of Journalists marked in Artsakh May 23

President of the Republic of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan addressed a congratulatory message to media representatives on the occasion of the Day of Journalists.

“From now on, the Day of Journalists will be marked in Artsakh on May 23. It is another evidence of a proper attitude of our public and authorities towards important and difficult job of journalists,” the message reads.

The President stressed that from the very first days of the Artsakh movement many journalists dedicated themselves to defending the Motherland, some of them perished in that struggle.

“Our nation has chosen the path of democratic development and has been firmly building a state, where civil rights and liberties prevail. Meanwhile, the freedom of speech is a fundamental human right, which is fixed in the NKR Constitution. For this very reason, importance is attached to the role of journalists,” the statement reads.

According to Sahakyan, journalists are considered to be a peculiar bridge between the public and authorities. “I want to be sure that you are well aware of the whole responsibility of this mission and will implement it with dignity, always being adhered to moral norms, preserving high civil position and professionalism,” the President stressed in his address.
