Froch: fight must take place in Nottingham or America

The venue dispute continues between super middleweights Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham. Froch continues to stand his ground against their Super Six showdown taking place in Germany. In a recent interview, Froch turned down the proposed neutral location of Sweden, and said the fight would have to take place in his hometown of Nottingham - or America, boxingscene.com reported.

Chris Meyer, Managing Director for Abraham's promoter Sauerland Event, said the fight will not take place in America. Pursuant to the fight agreement, Abraham-Froch has to take place in Europe - unless the two parties reach a deal to hold it elsewhere.

"The agreement calls for Europe if he hasn't read it. We can cynically say that Berlin is so much west that it's already east of Nottingham," Meyer said. "We had a big holiday weekend, but we are back in business and back in the office, Kalle [Sauerland] and me. And I know that they spoke [Kalle and Froch's promoter Mick Hennessy], trying to find a compromise on the date and the site."

The scheduled date for Abraham-Froch has been August 21. Because of the ongoing dispute over the site, Meyer admits the August date is a longshot, and at this point both fighters have put in requests for the fight to take place at a later date.

"Personally, I think we are a point of time where even the fighters want it [pushed] back, this date, both [fighters], including Froch," Meyer said. "Every day that passes onward, makes it more unlikely that we can ever make the [date of] August 21."
