20 hectares of organic gardens planted in Armenia

In the framework of a project approved in 2009, the Armenian government has subsidized AMD 300mln to Tamara Fruit CJSC for planting organic gardens.

“The initiative will help Tamara Fruit boost export volumes,” company head Boris Hovhannisyan told journalists on May 26. “As of today, 20 hectares of organic gardens were planted.

“A similar agreement is pending in the RA Ministry of Agriculture,” he said.

Mr. Hovhannisyan also informed that the company’s turnover has decreased by 15-20% in 2009 as compared with the 2008 data. “Nevertheless, in the first quarter of 2010, the turnover grew by 40%,” he said.

Tamara Fruit launched cold tea production reaching 10-15 thousand bags per day. “The products will be exported to Russia and European countries,” Mr. Hovhannisyan said.

Presently, the company exports to U.S., Hungary, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany and Italy.
