2010 FIFA World Cup first day matches ended in draw

The 19th FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 11 in the South African Republic. The first match of group A between South Africa and Mexico finished 1-1. South African Siphiwe Tshabalala put the host nation in dreamland, by scoring the first goal of this year’s tournament. However, South African hopes for an opening day victory were dashed by Rafael Marquez.

Yesterday’s second match between France and Uruguay ended in a bore draw.

After the first day, the South African Republic team is the leader of group A, followed by Mexico, Uruguay and France, all having 1 point.

On June 12, group B teams will enter the competition: South Korea v Greece, Argentina v Nigeria, and England v USA.
