Armenian-French inter-parliamentary cooperation to be activated

PanARMENIAN.Net - On July 8, Speaker of the Armenian parliament Hovik Abrahamyan received a delegation of the Armenian-French inter-parliamentary friendship group led by Serge Lagauche.

Besides, the Ambassadors of the two countries, Vigen Chitechyan and Serge Smessov, also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, Abrahamyan appreciated the continuously developing Armenian-French relations. He noted that the high-level of political dialogue, strong inter-parliamentary ties and influential Armenian community of France serve as a serious factor for the development of the Armenian-French relations. According to Abrahamyan, the policy of integration into Europe is among priorities of the Armenian foreign policy and internal reforms.

As for the Karabakh conflict settlement, the RA NA Chairman noted that Armenia attaches importance to the OSCE Minsk Group’s mediation, as a single format for the conflict resolution.

Besides, he referred to bellicose statements of Azerbaijan and the June 18 provocation of Baku near Chaylu settlement, expressing concern over the absence of the international community’s relevant reaction, what could prevent repetition of similar incidents.

For his part, Serge Lagauche attached importance to boosting relations between the Armenian and French parliaments, as well as to activating ties and mutual visits.

Lagauche also said that it is important to solve the Karabakh conflcit through peace talks.

The activation of parliamentary diplomacy and cooperation within international structures were in the focus of the meeting as well, the RA NA press service reported.
